Wharton's Mayor – Bill Chegwidden
Responsible Stewardship of our Resources
Long term Planning to Keep Taxes Low
• New water delivery system to protect our precious drinking water
Broadening our tax base
• Intelligent growth, bringing greater revenue to town while lowering our tax base
• We also maintained our position as the 2nd lowest municipal tax per capita
• Managing municipal finances to be debt free by 2016
Open and transparent communication
• Everbridge Communication System – enables instant contact in an emergency like Sandy, other special
weather alerts or notices, such as changes in trash and recycling collection, or notice of community events like
fireworks displays and Canal Day
• Emergency Radio – AM1620; a new alternative to increase communication with Wharton residents for
emergencies and community events
Keeping Wharton a Special Place to Live
• Created Job Fair: December 2013 event attended by more than 10 local employers and over 200 people;
initiated by Mayor Chegwidden so that our residents could both live and work in Wharton
• Maintained and rebuilt parks for Wharton’s families – Recently installed pavers in Memorial Park; purchased
underutilized land to extend the Hugh Force Canal Park along the Canal route for the enjoyment of Wharton
families
